A week after the 25th Art Car Parade in Houston and I'm already counting the days for the next year. It was really a great weekend and I had a nice opportunity to make new friends and even got some of my pictures published.
I attended three of the weekend events, the ball, the sneak peek and the parade itself.
The ball really lived up to it's reputation as one of Houston's wildest parties. The slogan is "The cars are the stars" but I respectfully disagree and I believe the guests are the stars, with costumes as extravagant as (and sometimes matching) the art cars, the guests really made this evening special, along with a very cool line of shows and concerts. There was a treat of rain but if fortunately hold off just until the party was over to come down pouring on us.
The sneak peek was interesting and a more family themed way of seeing the art cars up close. It actually was a very nice experience since it was in the evening and we were able to avoid the Houston heat while admiring the cars. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as forgiving as the night before and the event was cut short due to a Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado warning (you know, just a bit of rain-hail with thunder).
Finally, the main event: the parade. I got a chance to walk about a mile down Allen parkway to see the 250+ art cars parked waiting for the show, and afterwards see them take a round trip from Taft to the Heritage Society and then back. I also took a chance to make a small time lapse video of the parade using a lensbaby edge 80 to simulate the miniature effect which is currently published on the official page of the Art Car Parade.
The other news is that one of my pictures (this one) is currently displaying in the background of the main page of the Art Car Parade. I got asked for a few other pictures, but I haven't seen them published anywhere (yet). I'll update here if I get word that my pics where used elsewhere.
Here are the links and slideshows for the three weekend events:
